Puzzles: The puzzles are still part of the adventure and blend well with all the other mechanics, as they don't break the game's pace. Some levels are excellent, like the sewers (yes, a sewer level can be well-designed in a video game), the subway systems, the chapel, or the amusement park. Hence, tight areas are more numerous and successfully manage to increase tension. Level design: In this title, as the level design is less open and more constrained, you are less likely to roam looking for what you should do. Also, for the first time in the series, you can reduce damage by blocking at the right time, which adds more texture to combats. Your ammunition is gold, so use strong and fast melee weapons like the katana to save guns for tough foes and bosses. Combats: You will fight against various opponents, adapting your strategy depending on their threat level and capabilities and using melee and firearm weapons.Oh, and the innovative beef jerky mechanic is introduced and allows you to lure monsters away. As you whistle away the dark, you will find valuable items like first aid kits, energy drinks, firearms, melee weapons, and others required to progress. The radio is also part of your items and will crackle when monsters are nearby. Survive and explore: Your trustworthy flashlight will still be there to help you explore all the scary dark places. As you awaken in a burger restaurant, you try to leave the mall, but private detective Douglas Cartland confronts you, stating he has information about your birth. It opens with one of your nightmares of being trapped in an amusement park and killed by a roller coaster. You play Heather, a teenage heroine that went shopping but was suddenly trapped in a frightening city named Silent Hill. Highly recommended for any Silent Hill fan. This is the title after Silent Hill 2 and before Silent Hill 4: The Room. Any Silent Hill fan who hasn't yet played the third installment to the series, is missing out on a great game. Silent Hill 3 executes both these qualities, and even more so in terms of fear factor. Most modern horror of this generation (Again, in my opinion) seems to lack that "Fear factor" and just seemingly focuses just on the gory violence. The Lakeside Amusement Park, which is one of the oldest operating theme parks in America is incredibly eerie, especially when Heather 1st enters the park and falls to her knees in agony as she is giving birth to a demon god. This is one of those rare games that can actually give you nightmares. The eerie, creepy, gloomy atmosphere is done again, really well. I would rank it as the 3rd best in the series after the 1st two games (In my opinion) being my favourites. Although Silent Hill 3 isn't the best in the franchise, it is far from the worst. The Konami team do an exceedingly good job of creating genuinely scary sound effects that can have you on the edge of your seat, sometimes so sudden that your heart skips a beat. For instance, when you hear a noise and think a monster is there, It's actually just a sound effect to surprise you very sharply and make you panic and wonder. One brilliant thing about the Silent Hill series is It's unpredictability. Quite possibly the most frightening experience one will have playing a video game.
